What this outcome means

The FAA sent the case back to the filer rather than issuing a determination. This is the most common non-clean outcome and usually means something has to change or be supplied before the study can finish — not that the project was refused.

The proposal, in the filer's words

"Remove or relocate existing partial perimeter fence then construct a full perimeter chain-link fence with a buried skirt which will incorporate recycled demolished fencing fabric as bear skirt where possible. The fence is to be 8 feet tall with three strands of barbed wire angled outward. A maintenance/access road will be constructed along the perimeter fence where practical and connect to other airport service roads. Replace vehicle gates V1-V3 and V5-V6 and remove vehicle gate V4. Replace electric gates E1-E5. Gates E2 and E3 will be consolidated into one large 36’ Box Cantilever Gate. Replace man gates M1-M2 and add one new pedestrian gate M3. All gates are to be able to withstand extreme winds and offer an easy latching system. \nBear fox wolf caribou and other mammals are entering the airport causing safety issues. We have an LOC letter with a picture of our staff chasing away bears from the runway. The Wildlife Hazard Assessment (WHA) recommends a full perimeter fence to the specifications listed in the nomination description. The Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP) lists a target date of 2025 for a full perimeter fence around the airport. At present only one- half of the airport has a fence. The USDA has strongly recommended a full perimeter fence with a buried skirt to prevent animal tunneling. A full perimeter fence will prevent animals from being stuck inside the airport and having to tunnel under. The 2012 Airport Master Plan recommends a full perimeter fence."

Screening a structure of your own?

Check Part 77 and the tower's line of sight before you file

LOS Analyzer screens a proposed structure against FAA Part 77 surfaces and the control tower's sightline to the runway, terrain-aware, in minutes. It is a preliminary screening — not an FAA determination and not a substitute for a licensed engineering review.
