What this outcome means

The FAA sent the case back to the filer rather than issuing a determination. This is the most common non-clean outcome and usually means something has to change or be supplied before the study can finish — not that the project was refused.

The proposal, in the filer's words

"Geotechnical drilling and environmental sampling will be performed to evaluate subsurface conditions for design of the Petersburg Airport Rehabilitation project (SFAPT00594). Advance 30 test borings of approximately 8 inches in diameter to between two and 40 feet below ground surface. An additional 32 asphalt cores will be taken throughout the runway taxiway and apron and 5 environmental surface samples will be taken withing the RSA. Borings will be backfilled and compacted and asphalt surfaces cold-patched. The structure height of drill rig is 25 feet. Provided coordinates are the boundary of the geotechnical drilling work area. Temporary closures of the airport will be required for drilling on the runway taxiway and safety areas. Work will conform to AC 150/5370-2 Operational Safety on Airports During Construction."

Screening a structure of your own?

Check Part 77 and the tower's line of sight before you file

LOS Analyzer screens a proposed structure against FAA Part 77 surfaces and the control tower's sightline to the runway, terrain-aware, in minutes. It is a preliminary screening — not an FAA determination and not a substitute for a licensed engineering review.
