EYW VORTAC Counterpoise
Key West, FL · near Key West Intl (3.3 mi)
What this outcome means
The FAA studied the proposal and concluded it would not be a hazard to air navigation. A no-hazard determination is not permanent — it carries an expiration date, and if the structure is not built by then the case has to be re-filed.
The proposal, in the filer's words
"Installation of a new elevated counterpoise structure and associated raising of the existing VORTAC antenna. The project consists of replacing the current counterpoise with a new metal framing platform that will stand 21 feet above ground level. The VORTAC antenna will be mounted on this new elevated counterpoise resulting in an increase in the antenna’s overall height relative to existing conditions. The counterpoise is a non‑radiating structural component required for proper operation of the VORTAC system.\n\nThe new structure will be permanently installed within the established VORTAC site boundary on previously developed land. No guy wires or additional vertical elements beyond the stated maximum height are included in this proposal. The work will not expand the facility footprint and will not introduce obstructions outside the defined project area."

Screening a structure of your own?
Check Part 77 and the tower's line of sight before you file
LOS Analyzer screens a proposed structure against FAA Part 77 surfaces and the control tower's sightline to the runway, terrain-aware, in minutes. It is a preliminary screening — not an FAA determination and not a substitute for a licensed engineering review.
