YAK Perimeter Fence Departure 3
Yakutat, AK · near Yakutat (1.1 mi)
What this outcome means
The FAA sent the case back to the filer rather than issuing a determination. This is the most common non-clean outcome and usually means something has to change or be supplied before the study can finish — not that the project was refused.
The proposal, in the filer's words
"Proposed airport security fencing alignment for review prior to final design. The fence construction will be 10′ tall chain link with a 1′ tall three-strand barbed wire topper (11′ total height) with steel posts. The fence will keep wildlife and people out and include a 5-foot skirt buried at a 45-degree angle culverts for fish streams grates on the culverts to prevent entry by beavers additional gates for servicing and a service road around the fence to allow for snow clearing and maintenance. The WHA WHMP WHSV and FAA Certification Safety Inspectors have all stated that a perimeter fence is needed to keep animals out. There are documented pictures of moose on the airport and coyotes can be heard howling. Bear prints and scat is often found on the airport. Wolf have been seen and the deer population is booming. FAA and TSA have both expressed strong messages of support for a perimeter fence. On November 14 2020 Alaska Airlines struck a bear during the landing rollout. The aircraft was substantially damaged. This incident indicates that past methods have fallen short and an exclusion system is needed."

Screening a structure of your own?
Check Part 77 and the tower's line of sight before you file
LOS Analyzer screens a proposed structure against FAA Part 77 surfaces and the control tower's sightline to the runway, terrain-aware, in minutes. It is a preliminary screening — not an FAA determination and not a substitute for a licensed engineering review.
