2026-04 Airfield Area/Security Lighting
Anchorage, AK · near Elmendorf Afb (0.6 mi)
What this outcome means
The FAA studied the proposal and concluded it would not be a hazard to air navigation. A no-hazard determination is not permanent — it carries an expiration date, and if the structure is not built by then the case has to be re-filed.
The proposal, in the filer's words
"The scope of this project is to remove and replace airfield area security lights conduit electrical equipment and conductors. Installation of new area/security lighting poles with trenching between poles and equipment. Saw cutting of asphalt and pavement and repair of those areas for a complete and usable project. Four OE/AAA evaluations have been submitted to account for the mobile construction activity on the Elmendorf Airfield (2026 AAL-15-OE through 2026 AAL-18). Four additional OE/AAA evaluations have been submitted for crane use in the same locations (2026 AAL-19-OE through 2026 AAL-22-OE).\n\nThere are 25 light poles in all. This project is still in design phase so the specification are not fully scoped. Two poles are new Numbers one and ten. The remaining 23 poles will be replaced one for one with new poles conductors and fixtures. During design if the new modern fixture can supply sufficient lumens with a shorter pole then a shorter pole will be installed. If not the pole height will remain the same. No poles will be installed at a height higher than existing. See accompanying spreadsheet for Lat/long/elevation of all 25 light pole locations.\n\nThe reason for the project is to replace/upgrade existing infrastructure."

Screening a structure of your own?
Check Part 77 and the tower's line of sight before you file
LOS Analyzer screens a proposed structure against FAA Part 77 surfaces and the control tower's sightline to the runway, terrain-aware, in minutes. It is a preliminary screening — not an FAA determination and not a substitute for a licensed engineering review.
