What this outcome means

The FAA sent the case back to the filer rather than issuing a determination. This is the most common non-clean outcome and usually means something has to change or be supplied before the study can finish — not that the project was refused.

The proposal, in the filer's words

"The Long Beach Airport is preparing to conduct the on-site phase of a supplemental per- and polyflouroalkyl (PFAS) investigation required by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board.\n\nThe investigation will consist of 6 total borings which will be performed utilizing a direct push drill rig. Direct push boring locations are depicted in red/black circles in the attached figure 4 being located within taxiway areas (RSA ROFA approach departure). The direct push drill rig has a maximum working height of 12ft 9in AGL (above ground level). Borings will advance to collect soil samples with a maximum proposed boring depth of 55ft BGL (below ground level). Upon conclusion of boring boreholes will be filled with either a cement-based grout using tremie methods or granular bentonite hydrated with potable water in lifts.\nSite elevation total structure height and overall height at each boring location is shown in Table 1.\nNOTE: The remaining 2 boring locations will be described in a separate 7460 form which are located in runway area."

Screening a structure of your own?

Check Part 77 and the tower's line of sight before you file

LOS Analyzer screens a proposed structure against FAA Part 77 surfaces and the control tower's sightline to the runway, terrain-aware, in minutes. It is a preliminary screening — not an FAA determination and not a substitute for a licensed engineering review.
